Kabendera Shinani, a renowned Rwandan journalist was assassinated in Tanzania. He was found drown in Lake Tanzania. Rwandan exiles in Tanzania alleged that Shinani was killed by the Rwandan Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI), which then simulated a suicidal drowning.
Kabendera Shinani was a Rwandan Hutu refugee who reported for the BBC. Before fleeing Rwanda, he was a Radio Rwanda reporter in both the Swahili and English programs. He was also a sports journalist.
External Intelligence Services of the current Rwandan Patriotic Front Government had recently tried to get Kabendera Shinani extradited to Rwanda by having him falsely accused of illegally voting in the latest Tanzanian parliamentary and presidential elections.
Kabendera Shinani was instrumental in the development of the foreign languages section of Radio Rwanda. He also has collaborated on several AfroAmerica Network reports on the Great Lakes Region of Africa.
Rwandan communities, especially the exiles, the international media, Radio listeners and AfroAmerica Network will dearly miss him.
